Fresh Choice Kitchens is the Community Kitchen Program of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS) and its role is to promote and supports community kitchens from across British Columbia.
A community kitchen is a group of individuals who meet regularly to cook healthy, nutritious meals. Everyone is expected to participate to the best of their abilities in menu selection, shopping, preparation and cooking – the only requirement is an interest in food! Good nutrition plays a key role in each community kitchen. Participants learn new recipes and are introduced to new foods that contribute to a more balanced diet. As well, in many community kitchens meals are often taken home and frozen for later, thus furthering healthy eating habits. Members share friendship, food and nutritional knowledge as well as culinary skills. View our community kitchen video to see what its all about .
As a program of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, Fresh Choice Kitchens shares the same Registered Charity Number 107449787RR0001

Fresh Choice Kitchens was established in 1996 under its former name, the Vancouver Community Kitchen Project. Since its inception, this program has been an actively addressing food security by assisting community kitchens through educational training sessions, advocacy and providing support.
Fresh Choice Kitchens supports community kitchens across the British Columbia. We foster independence by offering groups the knowledge and resources that community kitchens need to manage themselves and to overcome obstacles. We do this by:
regularly offering workshops such as:
