Many food banks across British Columbia support community kitchens by way of food donations. Contact your local food bank to find out their policy and procedures. For a list of Food Banks in BC, please visit the Food Banks Canada website.
For those of you with community kitchens in Vancouver, North Shore, New Westminster and Burnaby, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society can supply food support to your kitchen if you meet certain criteria. Please contact Shona Lam at shonal@foodbank.bc.ca for more details.
Grocery Stores
You may also want to ask your local grocery store if they would be interested in donating groceries. Here are examples of sponosr letters form Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and from Community Kitchens Northwest that you can use as a template to ask for in-kind food support
Also try contacting your local community garden or fruit tree project for fresh fruits and vegetables!
