Donations of kitchen equipment.
Large-scale cooking requires plenty of good equipment. Like the ingredients for a hearty recipe, it doesn’t have to be fancy or pretty or expensive. Solid, dependable pots and pans, spoons and whisks, baking sheets and muffin tins -- all do the job well.
Next to the teaching space at the Fresh Choice Kitchen’s office, there’s an equipment room packed seven shelves high with kitchen gear that kind-spirited individuals and businesses have donated. Once it arrives and it’s checked over, it doesn’t stay there long. Cooking tools from this room help equip CKs across the Lower Mainland, and the equipment is greatly appreciated, and quickly snapped up.
If you’re planning a kitchen makeover, downsizing your life, or simply tackling the clutter in that drawer by (or under) your stove, please keep the equipment room in mind. In the hands of new, eager cooks, implements you no longer need can take on a second productive life. Here is a list of the general sorts of equipment that is needed.
We do ask you to consider a few points before sending things our way:
Equipment should still be in good shape. (Ask yourself: “If necessary, would I keep using this?”)
Equipment should have all its parts & pieces. (We do not have the staff to search for replacement parts).
Larger pots, pans and utensils are of more use because CKs cook in big quantities.
Do you have specific tools for preparing dishes from distant cultures? They’re especially welcome because many CKs serve immigrant communities.
If you have material you would like to donate, please call ahead to make arrangements. The project relies on help from staff of the Food Bank warehouse, and that’s a very busy place. Warehouse staff need authorization from the Fresh Choice Kitchens office before they can accept any deliveries (otherwise, they are turned away).
If you have a large item such as an appliance to donate, we can put the word out to our network to see if we can find it a new home. If that works, we will connect the two parties so that they can make delivery arrangements. All appliances must be in good working condition.
